Improvement of provincial road from Megara to Alepochori (292733)
Budget 10.610.644 €
Payments 8.743.713 €
Almost complete absence of sidewalks. In the few cases where sidewalks are present, they generally have inadequate width and barriers that prevent pedestrians from using them (see photos 5,6), and there are no ramps for wheelchairs or other trolleys. In general, they do not meet either Greek standards or, much more, international standards. There is also a complete absence of pedestrian crossings, while at the same time, because of the project, car speeds are increasing. In this environment, people with disabilities or generally vulnerable road users (elderly, young children, parents with strollers, etc.) cannot move around.
The same contempt for pedestrian mobility rights, and in particular for those with disabilities, appears in all projects in the area funded by European programs. The bridges e.g. of Megara intersection, which is part of Olympia Road, while they have sidewalks (as they should), this is blocked by security barriers and does not continue on the roads leading to them (photo 15, 16), so they cannot be used. It should be noted that these bridges are part of the access to the train station.
